Working principle of multi cylinder engine
Jun 25,2025

A multi cylinder engine achieves power output through the collaborative work of multiple cylinders. Each cylinder independently performs four strokes of intake, compression, power generation, and exhaust, with staggered power generation times for each cylinder, resulting in more uniform crankshaft rotation. For example, a six cylinder engine performs work every 120 degrees of crankshaft angle, and the ignition sequence of a V8 engine usually follows the pattern of 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. This design ensures the continuity and stability of power output.
